Pakistani Woman Wins OSCA

'Saving Face' a documentary about women who have suffered Acid Attacks won the first OSCA for an Pakistani woman.

How proud was I, when I went into a barbershop in Bury Park - Luton and saw that a Pakistani woman had won an OSCAR!!!

Yes that’s right a Pakistani woman had won an OSCAR!!

One of the most prestigious awards in the showbiz industry.  The first OSCAR Pakistan had ever won which was so amazing and was some positive news for the country rather than the usual negative images that are associated with Pakistan.

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy made the film 'Saving Face', a documentary into the insight of this awful crime which affects thousands of women not just in Pakistan but worldwide. Here is a clip of the trailer for the film;

'Her victory puts the spotlight on a subject, which affects thousands of women in Pakistan and elsewhere, but is seldom discussed.

“The women’s bravery and resilience in the face of adversity inspires me every single day,” said Chinoy who dedicated the award to the women of her country.

Saving Face is about British-Pakistani plastic surgeon Mohammad Jawad, who performed reconstructive surgery on survivors of acid attacks in Pakistan. More than 100 people, mainly women and girls, are disfigured in acid attacks every year in Pakistan as common means of punishing alleged transgressions.

“The women who decided to be a part of the documentary did so because they wanted to make their voices heard and wanted to bring attention to this form of assault,” Chinoy explained saying that the women in her film were not actresses but true victims. Many victims are women attacked by their husbands, or those assaulted for turning down marriage proposals.'

I am happy that she won a OSCAR for highlighting such a crime and bringing it to the forefront of people’s minds.

The most famous case in the UK is that of Katie Piper who has set up a foundation for women who suffer these kinds of attacks and has her own story documented.  She is beautiful, intelligent and inspirational women whose story much like these women's is heartbreaking.  No person should ever get their lives ruined like this, it’s a horrible crime and people who commit such a crime should be punished accordingly.  Here is a clip of what happened to Katie;

Manni Sandhu

So today I’ve been cruising through you tube looking for new bhangra music.  I came across Manni Sandu, this guy had a track out in 2010 called 'door ni kulne' was such a tune played the life out of that song, my favourite lyric was 'tu jitne marzi bhangre ba door ne kulne door ne kulne'.  It was such a tune because if you’re Asian you know parents go slightly overboard about you being out all night and this is what this video was referring to.   Also thought I’d find him on twitter and yes he does have a twitter account search @mannisandhu and follow the guy because I think the future is bright for this guy.

Now back to new music, he has an even bigger better tune called 'sona' and click below to check it out.

Also im gonna add my fav track 'door ni kulne'

Bashys Back

So Bashy is back with this 'heart of stone'!!!! check it out gonna be big!!!!!

RIP Whitney Houston

Sad news for me was that Whitney Houston passed away, another amazing talent who got addicted to the life and couldn’t beat it.  Much like the death of Michael Jackson it looks like prescription medicines were the cause for her untimely death.

Born a Star...

Lived like a Star...

Passed away a Star...

Whitney Houston was the voice, the original voice may I add, she was there before Mariah, before Leona before all the big voices.  She was known so well for her song 'I will always love you' in which she showed off that amazing voice she had.  I was born in the 80's so the music from the 90's was the soundtrack to my childhood and she was one of the biggest voices in that era.  I have always loved soulful, big urban voices and Whitney was and probably will always be the biggest voice in this genre.  As much as I loved Hip Hop as a child/ teenager I loved R'n'B, sometimes my friends made fun of me but I was the kid with all the music from the urban scene, it’s what I spent all my money on.  I had so many cassettes and later CD's and would listen to the top 40 on the radio and record all the songs on tapes from the radio.

Whitney’s music when I was younger was something I loved she was a modern take on all the soul music which I was also was addicted to.  I remember 'The Bodyguard' and the soundtrack to that film was amazing and in high school all the girls would be singing 'I will always love you' to their boyfriends.  Then there was the film 'Waiting to Exhale' which had all the women on there independent woman mode.  They would be quoting lines from it at school like they were grown and independent, well that was the girls who had heard of the film.  It went on to define a generation of independent women who were trying to take over the 90's all gassed up on Whitney 'I know it’s not right but it’s ok'.  But I have to say for our generation it was the 'my love is your love' album and it was played by everyone.  She had some amazing tracks on this album including 'My love is your love' and looked beautiful in all her videos.

We knew all her songs, we visited heartbreak hotel, we wanted someone to dance with us, experienced the greatest love of all, knew it wasn’t right but it was ok, told someone that my love is your love and your love is my love, saw Whitney become every woman, we had nothing, learned from the best, exhaled, all at once, saw the queen on the night and will always love Whitney Houston.

Rest in Peace you star...

Heartbreak hotel may not have been Whitneys biggest song but it was one of my fav's, have a listen, two other amazing singers Kelly Price and Faith Evans with Whitney make this song great.

I will always love you
If I

One Moment in time

RIP

M I A

I think this new song MIA has released is awesome.  She has always been a talented young lady and I am so glad she is doing so well.  I have been waiting for so long for her to drop another amazing tune, as I played the life out of paper planes.  From when she released paper planes you could tell this young lady was going to become a icon not just in the music industry but the fashion industry because she had a quirky side which I loved.

Also not to put a downer on this blog post but why are people so outraged at MIA sticking up a middle finger at the super bowl.  Come on really, she is singing 'give me all your luvin' (obviously no dirty meaning to that lyric) and her Madonna and Nicki Minaj are wearing 'provocative' outfits as well as thrusting their hips into the camera, but MIA sticking up her middle finger is controversial.  Come on America children have heard swear words and are bombarded with images of 'sexy' celebrities all day every day.  They have access to so many different outlets to see and hear this stuff like YouTube, twitter, facebook, TV, cinema, other internet sites etc etc. But a woman sticking up a middle finger during her sexy performance is controversial, really?!?!? I think there are much greater risks ruining children’s minds that you may want to deal with first #justsaying

So please have a listen below of her new song ‘bad girls’ and the video looks to be set in the Middle East.  The car tricks in the video are quite cool, well actually the concept of the whole video is cool.
