Rodney King

I was sad to hear about the death of Rodney King, he was a man in a unfortunate position which brought racism of the US police and police brutality to forefront of everyone's attention.  A bystander video recorded the incident and it clearly showed the policemen beating a black man who could not defend himself for no reason.

This incident showed all of America the social inequalities and the victimization that the black community faced and still face to this day.  After the officers were acquitted by a jury with no black members, rioting broke out in LA.

There has been much media speculation that Rodney was drinking and smoking drugs in the early hours of the morning which resulted in him drowning in his pool.  There were images of marijuana plants being removed from his house but no definite evidence of what was in his system when he passed away.

I will remember him as a man who started a movement and brought to life and clearly showed to mainstream America the inequalities the black communities faced there.  Also the police brutality and the fact that they could get away with anything they did and the system was built in there favor.  Another case of the rich do as they please and the poor suffer.

Institutional racism is not just something that affects america its also alive and well here in the UK.  It is still an issue that victimizes many people purely on their race.

Eric Cantona on Israel

Finally Eric says what the rest of the world is thinking.  But because he has said it about Israel (A illegal state which is occupying the land of Palestine) which is backed by the US and UN I'm pretty sure it will be ignored.  The way of the world - the poor get trampled on and the rich do what they please.
