Killing Daughters At Birth

'Killing Daughters at Birth'

This SICK SICK act still exists in some Asian countries.  Why does it exist because of other sick traditions which society has imposed including Dowry, Sons carry on the family name, and some Hindu people believe that only the son can light the fire when they are cremated after death.  The sheer expense and society pressures people feel are leading them to kill their daughters at birth.   Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism and I'm sure every religion in the Asian continent is against this evil act.

Dowry is a payment many families give when they marry off their daughters and parents of the groom decide the amount they wish for the brides family to pay them.  It is a silly tradition which has been banned, but due to pressures from society it still exists and parents of the bride feel obliged to pay it.  For poor families this is helpless situation, one which they have to live with and many sell everything to marry off their daughters.

This is not the only reason people abort or kill their daughters at birth, they do it because they want a son.  There is a stigma around only having daughters in some Asian traditions and they all want sons.  But do they not think to produce a son they need a woman, the person who gave birth to them was a woman and who will marry their sons if there are no girls.

Islam is thoroughly against this sick tradition and regards daughters as a blessing from Allah (swt), a blessing that should be cherished.  But so many ignore this in South Asian countries, only if these people realised that a girl is a blessing.  In India this has lead to a big gender gap in their population and in some parts boys outnumber girls by large amounts.

We cant just say countries like India are the only culprits for the double standard between boys and girls, many people here in the UK (Asian, Black, White) who I know want a boy over a girl.

Here is a documentary i watched about this;

Also some musicians from the Continent are bringing it to everyone's attention;

Chino Addiction

My addiction to chino's is making people give me 'dirty looks' and making my friends and family make jokes about them.  I have a few pairs, the dark green, the beige and the cream seem to be acceptable in everyone's eyes.

On the other hand I have a few brighter colours, one of the chinos in question are from Zara and are bright red. Also they are my Favorite pair and I love wearing them and I cant understand how these obviously jealous people hate them, just because I can rock them.

Now i have seen some light blue and purple ones that i want, is my addiction becoming too much?

The Secret Life of Bee's

Just finished watching this film and thought i would share it with my blog readers.  The film is about a young white girl in civil rights America who wants answers of what happened to her mother and why her father does not love her.  All she has is a picture of her mother, the image of a black Mary and Jesus, and a name of a town.  It has a all star cast with Alicia Keys, Queen Latifah, Dakota Fanning and Jennifer Hudson putting in great performances.

The film is set in America back when black Americans were fighting for civil rights which make a nice back drop to film.  A small glimpse into the aparthied that was occurring in America is shown and the abuse which black men and women suffered.  One of the lines in the film from Alicia Keys was 'how do these white people hate us when they are raised by black women' stuck with me.  The fact that in this time, whites did not think the black members of society were equal to them but, they let them raise their most valued assets - their kids.

This however is overshadowed and the good in people and their ability to be kind to strangers.  The fact that colour has no affect on truly good people and their ability to see through a person to their qualities means far more.  The little girl runs away from her abusive dad with her nanny and best friend who had been arrested for an injustice that had occurred to her because she was black.  They end up in the town that was on the picture and find the house with the black Mary (which has its own story).  There she remembers what had happened to her mother and receives more love than she ever had received and ends up with 3 amazing, strong, kind and loving mothers.
